Dental Crowns

Here at Javadi Smiles in La Mesa, provide traditional crowns to protect nerves exposed from a root canal procedure. Installing a crown involves building up the fragile tooth with material to help hold the crown in place. The procedure is relatively simple and typically takes less than an hour to complete. Unless you request otherwise, it rarely requires more than a local anesthesia.

Uses for Dental Crowns

There are many reasons why Dr. Javadi might suggest installing a crown, but a few of the most common are teeth exposed by root canal procedure, teeth that are chipped or cracked, restoring an implant, and some forms of tooth decay.

Sometimes a cavity is so large or deep that it requires a root canal to remove all of the affected area. A crown is provided to protect the otherwise fragile tooth that remains following the root canal procedure.

Crowns are also used to protect cracked or badly chipped teeth. Sometimes injuries to the mouth can result in teeth being cracked or chipped. Damaged teeth can become fragile and eventually break off over time from normal daily wear. Installing a crown over damaged teeth will protect the teeth from further damage, as well as make the damaged teeth much more appealing.

If you choose to get a dental implant, we will usually attach a crown to the implant to form a full prosthetic tooth (implants can also be used to support dentures).

Why Should You Get a Dental Crown?

If left untreated, tooth decay can leave teeth so brittle that the only solution is tooth extraction. Less severe tooth decay can be treated by placing a crown over the affected tooth. This will help strengthen the tooth and slow decay.

Give your dental crowns the same care and attention as you do your natural teeth. Tooth decay can occur beneath a crown just as it can on any other tooth in the mouth. So, daily brushing and flossing should include the crown area as much as your other teeth.

We will give you that smile that you deserve with natural looking dental crowns, and we will give you all of the information you will need to keep those crowns beautiful and healthy.
